GitHub AI Update: AI Scan and Agentic Autofix Go GA; HydraFusion Max Debuts

Three [GitHub](https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-15-ai-scan-for-pull-requests-generally-available/) [announcements](https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-15-agentic-autofix-for-code-scanning-alerts-general-availability/) [on October 14–15](https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-14-hydrafusion-updates-and-new-max-option/) illustrate a broader shift in AI development tools: agents are moving beyond code suggestions into security triage, remediation and model orchestration. The dates here are the original GitHub announcements, not the dates a post was reshared on X. These are **three separate capabilities** with different access and billing rules.

1. AI Scan now checks eligible pull requests

[AI Scan for pull requests is generally available](https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-15-ai-scan-for-pull-requests-generally-available/). It complements CodeQL by flagging possible vulnerabilities in PR changes, including languages and formats CodeQL does not currently cover, such as PHP, Shell/Bash, Terraform HCL and Dockerfiles. Findings appear alongside CodeQL output with an **AI** marker and may include an explanation or suggested fix. AI Scan runs when code scanning and the repository’s effective AI Scan setting are enabled.

The caveat: findings are **advisory**. They cannot fail the code-scanning check or block a merge through ruleset requirements. Fork PRs and Dependabot PRs are excluded. Public repositories owned by individuals or organizations are eligible; private and internal organization repositories need GitHub Code Security or Advanced Security. No Copilot license is required, but scans consume **Code Security AI Credits**. [Source: GitHub Changelog](https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-15-ai-scan-for-pull-requests-generally-available/)

2. Agentic autofix prepares a fix PR

[Agentic autofix for code-scanning alerts is also GA](https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-15-agentic-autofix-for-code-scanning-alerts-general-availability/). Assign an eligible alert to Copilot and it explores relevant files, proposes a change, reruns CodeQL, and opens a **draft pull request for human review**. You can assign one alert or up to 25 from the alert list or a security campaign to one PR. It supports alerts on the repository’s **default branch**, not alerts found only on a PR or another branch.

This is for GitHub Code Security and Advanced Security customers on GitHub Enterprise Cloud, including data residency. An enterprise administrator must enable its policy, then an organization or repository administrator enables the feature; a Copilot billing method is also required. The old free “Generate Fix” action is replaced by “Assign to Copilot” when enabled. Runs consume **Code Security AI Credits and GitHub Actions minutes**. A draft fix still needs review and testing. 3. HydraFusion Max joins the preview

[HydraFusion Max](https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-14-hydrafusion-updates-and-new-max-option/) is a more reasoning-intensive option for GitHub’s multi-model orchestration feature. GitHub also updated the regular HydraFusion model pool and its Cascade and Critique workflows. The system can use different models and reasoning efforts at different stages, then deliver a single response. That makes Max a **workflow option**, not a newly released standalone model.

Both options remain in **research preview** across VS Code, the GitHub Copilot app and Copilot CLI. GitHub lists access on Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business and Enterprise with experimental/preview features enabled, subject to organization model policy. The announcement does not give an independent price or a benchmark that would justify calling Max universally better. **Practical takeaway:** Check your repository’s scan settings and AI-credit budget before rollout. Keep AI Scan findings in the review loop, inspect agentic fix diffs and validation, and evaluate HydraFusion Max on your own demanding tasks while it is still a preview.
