OpenAI Brings Intelligent UI to ChatGPT With GPT-6
OpenAI [announced GPT-6 and Intelligent UI on October 7](https://openai.com/index/gpt-6-for-everyone/), adding a new way for ChatGPT to respond: instead of always returning a block of prose, it can assemble a visual, interactive interface around a question. The company gives examples of an explorable bicycle diagram, adjustable explanations, calculators, a bill splitter, and a game inside the conversation.
This is a **ChatGPT product update**, not a new coding-agent release. OpenAI explicitly says the models powering Codex and Work are unchanged by this launch.
What changes in a conversation?
GPT-6 can combine text with graphics, buttons, forms, charts and other interactive elements. The format is supposed to follow the task: a comparison might be easier side by side, a complex concept might call for a diagram you can explore, and a straightforward question may still get a plain-text answer. OpenAI describes this as a model decision, not a requirement that every answer become an app. [Source: OpenAI announcement](https://openai.com/index/gpt-6-for-everyone/)
The examples make the distinction concrete. A user can ask how a bicycle works and explore its parts, vary an input to understand a concept, or request a small calculator or bill splitter to solve a task immediately. These are examples shown or described by OpenAI, not a promise that every prompt will produce the same type of interface.
How OpenAI says it works
OpenAI says it built a library of **native, streamable components** and a compiler that processes the interface while the model generates it. That lets parts of the answer appear progressively rather than waiting for a complete interface. The company says GPT-6 was trained and evaluated to choose useful layouts, visuals and interactions—and to recognize when text alone is better. This architecture is the most interesting developer detail, but it needs a boundary: the announcement describes how **ChatGPT** renders Intelligent UI. It does **not** announce a general API or SDK that lets third-party applications call the same interface generator. Treat any developer-platform implications as a future possibility, not a currently available integration.
Rollout and model split
OpenAI says the feature starts rolling out globally in the **Chat** tab to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise customers on October 7, then expands to Free and Go starting October 8. Enterprise access depends on administrator settings. A rollout start is not a guarantee that every account sees it immediately. In ChatGPT, **GPT-6 Sol** powers the paid tiers named above, while **GPT-6 Luna** powers Free and Go. OpenAI says this release does not change the models powering Codex or Work. It also does not announce a separate Intelligent UI charge. [Source: OpenAI announcement](https://openai.com/index/gpt-6-for-everyone/)
**Bottom line:** Intelligent UI moves ChatGPT toward answers you can manipulate, not just read. The practical test is whether the generated controls and visuals make a specific task clearer or faster; OpenAI itself says the model's design judgment still has room to improve.
